Mogito Open Access Journals of Cell & Developmental Biology (MJCDB) Publication Ethics

Mogito Open Access Journal of Cell & Developmental Biology (MJCDB)

At the Mogito Open Access Journal of Cell & Developmental Biology (MJCDB), we are deeply committed to maintaining the integrity, transparency, and quality of the scientific record. Our publication ethics policy is guided by the principles of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and adheres to the best practices established by ICMJE and WAME.

We expect all authors, reviewers, editors, and contributors to follow the highest standards of ethical conduct throughout the submission, peer review, and publication process.

1. Ethical Responsibilities of Authors

Authors submitting to MJCDB must ensure that:

  • Originality: Submitted work is original, has not been previously published, and is not under consideration elsewhere.

  • Plagiarism: Manuscripts are free of plagiarism, including self-plagiarism. Proper attribution and citation of sources are mandatory.

  • Authorship: All listed authors meet authorship criteria and have agreed to the final version of the manuscript.

  • Data Integrity: All data are accurate, verifiable, and honestly represented. Fabrication, falsification, or selective reporting is strictly prohibited.

  • Human and Animal Ethics: Studies involving human or animal subjects must include evidence of approval from an institutional ethics committee. Informed consent must be obtained where applicable.

  • Conflict of Interest: All financial or non-financial conflicts of interest must be disclosed at the time of submission.

  • Funding Disclosure: All sources of funding must be acknowledged, including grant numbers or institutional support.

  • Corrections and Retractions: Authors are responsible for informing the journal of any significant errors or inaccuracies post-publication. Appropriate corrections or retractions will be issued as needed.

2. Ethical Responsibilities of Reviewers

Reviewers for MJCDB are expected to:

  • Provide fair, objective, and constructive feedback within a reasonable timeframe

  • Maintain confidentiality regarding the manuscript’s content

  • Declare any conflicts of interest and recuse themselves from the review if necessary

  • Avoid using unpublished data or ideas from the manuscript for personal advantage

  • Notify the editor of any concerns related to research misconduct, ethical violations, or substantial similarities to other works

3. Ethical Responsibilities of Editors

Editors at MJCDB are responsible for:

  • Making editorial decisions based on scholarly merit, scientific quality, and relevance to the journal’s scope

  • Ensuring a fair and unbiased double-blind peer review process

  • Maintaining confidentiality of all submitted manuscripts

  • Handling potential conflicts of interest appropriately

  • Investigating all reports of misconduct and following COPE’s flowcharts for corrective actions when needed

  • Upholding journal policies and promoting ethical research practices

4. Handling Misconduct and Ethical Breaches

MJCDB takes allegations of ethical misconduct seriously. All cases involving suspected plagiarism, data manipulation, duplicate publication, unethical experimentation, or authorship disputes are thoroughly investigated.

If misconduct is confirmed, actions may include:

  • Formal retraction or correction of the article

  • Notification of the author’s institution

  • Banning authors from future submissions

  • Public disclosure of misconduct as per COPE guidelines

All parties involved will be given an opportunity to respond during the investigation process.

5. Plagiarism Detection

All submitted manuscripts are screened using plagiarism detection software prior to peer review. Manuscripts with significant overlap (typically over 15–20% similarity) with previously published works will be returned to authors for revision or rejected outright.

6. Corrections, Retractions, and Expressions of Concern

MJCDB follows a transparent approach to maintaining the scholarly record:

  • Corrections are issued for honest errors that do not affect the conclusions.

  • Retractions are issued for articles involving proven misconduct or major errors that compromise data integrity.

  • Expressions of Concern may be published when an investigation is ongoing.

All updates are clearly labeled and linked to the original article.

7. Appeals and Complaints

Authors may appeal editorial decisions or raise concerns about the peer review process by contacting the editorial office. Appeals must include detailed justifications and are reviewed by a senior editor or an independent reviewer.

Complaints regarding unethical behavior by editors, reviewers, or authors will be investigated in accordance with COPE procedures.

8. Commitment to Diversity and Equity

MJCDB is committed to fostering an inclusive and respectful publishing environment. We encourage submissions and participation from researchers of all backgrounds, especially those from underrepresented regions and communities. Discrimination or bias of any kind is not tolerated.
